Battery Maintenance
In hot weather your battery needs more attention to maintain its good health. As Porsche owners, you need to keep better-than-average care of your car. And that lump of lead under the bonnet tends to be forgotten about.
In the Hong Kong heat your battery is in danger of a premature death. The water which is part of the electrolyte in a standard lead-acid cell battery found in most cars tends to evaporate more in hotter weather. Loss of electrolyte due to under-hood heat is said to be the cause of over 50% of early battery failures. Keeping a close watch to ensure that the plates are completely covered will extend the life of your battery. Even most of the so-called maintenance-free batteries are prone to this problem. If it has a vent to the atmosphere, you will lose water.
Be sure to use only distilled water when replenishing the cells, and do not over-fill. A few minutes a month can add years of life to your battery and your enjoyment of your Porsche.
